6 Common Habits Of Unhappy People

It’s a common mistake that people make, to try to find happiness from outside of yourself. We think that with the right clothes, the right partner, the right house and the best stuff, we’ll be happy.

But that’s not exactly how happiness works. Happiness will never come from a job, money, or possessions. Happiness comes from within and it is something you will need to actively work on every single day!

Below we have complied a list of the six most common habits that keep us unhappy. How many of these habits do you have?

Don’t worry though, even if you possess all six of these habits, you can still attain happiness, you’ll just have to try a little harder!

Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions. – Dalai Lama

1. Being too critical

You’re critical of yourself or others. Often when we’re unhappy, we’ll be critical of others to make them feel like we do, and even worse, we’re critical of ourselves.

Realize that you and others will make mistakes and move on. Truly value what you and others do.

2. Being addicted to negative things

Moderation is key. It’s fine to unwind with a beer and some good food at the end of the day, but don’t let these pleasures turn into addictions that take center stage in our lives.

3. Dwelling on the past

Your past can be hard to forget, there’s no doubt about that. In a way, you shouldn’t forget your past. All of your past mistakes should be lessons learned.

That doesn’t mean you need to dwell on them. In doing so, you’re derailing your present and your future. Leave the past behind.

4. Worrying

Worry is a misuse of imagination, and in a sense, it takes the wind out of your sails. When you worry about what a new day will bring, it’s hard to get pumped up and fight to do your best.

Don’t worry so much. Think about all of the opportunity there is out there for you.

5. Letting fear drive you

Motivation is great. We all need drive to help us get from point A to point B. We shouldn’t, however, let fear drive us. Let love drive you. Let your loftiest goals drive you.

When you’re driven by fear, you’re more likely to make mistakes and less likely to meet the positive outcome you’re hoping for.

6. Gossiping and complaining

When we gossip and say negative things about others, it just shows how unhappy we must be. When we complain without looking for a solution, it demonstrates that we don’t want to make things better.

The kicker here though is that after you’re done gossiping and complaining, you don’t really feel better, do you?

It’s fine to blow off steam, but make sure you’re being proactive about it. Otherwise you mire yourself in whatever rut you might be in.
